Loren Lisk

Operational Engineer, DevOps, Coder & Passionate Technologist

Hello World!

I'm Loren Lisk also known as Liskl, and I Create.

Currently serving as a Staff DevOps Engineer, I specialize in cloud computing solutions architecture and security, with a focus in containers and kubernetes. I help organizations bridge the gap between vision and technical implementation, architecting multi-region cloud infrastructure and building developer platforms that enable teams to ship faster and more reliably.

I've been known to dabble in all sorts of hobbies and skilled projects which include things like embedded systems, solar power engineering, programming, as well as Homelabbing.

Along time ago I lead development on LisklCraftLisklcraft, a private Minecraft Server hosted in a Homelab... I helped build the Neverwinter Nights eXtender nwnx With Papillon (Ingmar Stieger) during the years of 2003-2005. Here is the Server rack that runs most things I work on. These days you can find me playing or working on datacenter liskl as well as learning about everything linux, kubernetes and containers. I work from home, and live in the amazing city of Ormond Beach, Florida. I'm currently linked in to many different people for many different reasons.

You can send me an email if you like..

I was a pleasure to have worked with Loren. Loren was brought in to help recover and stabilize a fragile system(environment, deployment, etc). He had the knowledge to correct and simplify the system, while working closely with many different teams concurrently. He demonstrates energy towards both the end customer and his direct colleagues.
He has exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills. Loren would be a great asset to any company.

  • Jon Billow - Peak Hosting, President

When I started at Peak, I was very quiet for the first 30 days. I wanted to get a sense of who was who, where the thought leaders were, where were "those people" that are in every organization - once you find them you can get ANYTHING done, but until then, good luck. As I got to know my staff and started to feel the flow of the business, several names immediately started to become familiar. Regardless of the time pressure, the complexity of the project, or the level of customer difficulty, one person that I kept hearing about was Loren Lisk. Peak's workforce is completely virtual, and he was several level removed from me re: direct report, yet I became familiar with his work ethic, attention to detail, and solid engineering approach by his reputation. We had one major customer that regularly threw their weight around with extreme engineering challenges, and Loren was always the guy you could count on to find a solution, on time, keeping the customer happy. The company has gone through an extremely tumultuous year, and when our large customer breached their contract and took 80% of the company's revenue with them, character is truly tested. I can't fault those who left to find stability, but I am forever humbled by those like Loren - he clearly saw the risk, saw the opportunity elsewhere, yet stayed with us. Loren is one of those guys who will do anything asked, with a positive attitude, and will execute with quality. Peak exited the managed hosting business at the end of 2016, and is moving into a different line of business entirely. That said, I would gladly rehire him if I had a position. I encourage anyone who has a engineering position that Loren is qualified for to hire him immediately. You can see from my profile that I do not hand out recommendations easily; Loren is certainly someone that I am happy to fully, publicly endorse.
I would strongly recommend Loren to a potential employer and am available for any additional feedback.

  • Sergei Bleikhman - Peak Hosting, Manager

I have known Loren since he joined Peak Hosting in 2014. As a Manager of Technical Operations at the time I worked with him extensively and have nothing but appreciation for his technical skills and organizational abilities. Hired as a Systems Administrator, Loren played a key role in various company-wide initiatives, like development and continuous improvement of the unattended installation system and training of customer service admins on support of the major client - from syllabus creation to conducting training sessions and post-training testing. Soon promoted to an Operations Engineer, Loren continued to excel in complex technical solutions, such as Xen multi-system deployment and migration, and design/build of an OpenStack environment. He has also served as a customer liaison, being directly involved in account management and growth development of a key customer.
I would strongly recommend Loren to a potential employer and am available for any additional feedback.

  • Syn Calvo - Peak Hosting, Coworker

For almost two and a half years, I had the honor of working with Loren first as a Linux System Administrator and then through the creation of a new team of Operations Engineers. Loren's knowledge and expertise were invaluable to me at Peak Hosting and he is one of the best team members I could have asked for. He is always willing to help and would seek every opportunity to trade knowledge and learn or teach something new. He is never afraid to receive honest feedback and turn advice into profit or work with his team toward a mutual solution for customer inquiries.
Loren's involvement in and understanding of Linux Administration, Problem Management and Change Management brought me to him many times for advice. He is an asset to any company looking for a rock star on their team.

  • Jeff Bragdon - Peer1 Hosting, Direct Supervisor

    To Whom It May Concern,

Over the course of my employment with Peer1, I had the great pleasure of filling the role of a supervisor responsible for Loren Lisk. He proved himself over and over again an excellent Linux engineer with deep understanding of the root operating systems and applications that make business class hosting successful.

I came to rely on him for his ability to quickly resolve issues, his quality customer service, and his overall job performance.

Often, he was talked about in management meetings as one of our anchors for which we built shifts around.

Recently I left Peer1 for another opportunity which is only a Windows based environment, or I would be after Loren myself.

You could not ask for a more hard working, intelligent, experienced Linux engineer.
